This new footage showed off more of the world that Gollum will be sneaking his way through, as the story of the "Precious" ring is told from his unique perspective. Expectant fans were treated to some brand-new information and footage entitled " A Unique Promise" for the upcoming title, during an interview with Harald Riegler, Producer of Daedalic Entertainment. It will also be taking more inspiration from Tolkien’s original text, rather than the cultural phenomenon of Peter Jackson’s movie adaptations of The Lord of the Rings trilogy. This will include the introduction of a split personality mechanic, to account for Gollum and Sméagol focused conflicts.
In a change to other games set in these fantasy and orc riddled lands, such as Shadow of Mordor, The Lord of the Rings: Gollum will focus less on brutal violence and more on Gollum’s character and his skills at parkour. The Lord of the Rings: Gollum has already generated a lot of interest from fans of Tolkien’s Middle Earth, despite featuring an unlikely character as its lead.
However, in order to ensure that it delivers a game that is up to the high standard fans are already anticipating, developer Daedalic Entertainment, along with its new partner Nacon, pushed the release date for The Lord of the Rings: Gollum back to an unspecified date in 2022. The Lord of the Rings: Gollum was first announced in 2019, with a release date set for 2021. More news has been revealed about the upcoming The Lord of the Rings: Gollum video game at the recent Nacon Connect that sees the return of some familiar faces to Middle-earth.
